Best High RTP Slots

Mega Joker

Mega Joker has a reputation for having one of the highest RTP rates out there. Note that there are a couple of different games named Mega Joker, but none of them have an RTP that compares to that of NetEnt’s 2013 release. With an RTP of 99%, the returns from this slot are far better than the industry average! This is a highly volatile game with some basic visuals and a max win of 2,000x your stake.

White Rabbit Megaways

This Big Time Gaming title not only has a 97.77% RTP, but it also has a massive max win of 10,000x your stake. White Rabbit unfolds in the same universe as Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, so you can expect plenty of quirky weirdness in terms of the design. FlyX

For those who prefer a lower volatility game, FlyX from Buck Stakes Entertainment and Games Global has an RTP of 97% and a max win of 10,000x your stake. This is a crash game, rather than a traditional slot game, but it is based on a RNG and works similarly. In crash games, players try to cash out before the value of their wager drops, much like investing in a stock. If you haven’t given them a try, this one is a solid place to start.

What is RTP?

Every game based on a random number generator (RNG) has a predefined return to player (RTP) rate. You’ll find that a game’s RTP rate can be viewed before playing, usually in an in-game menu. Expressed as a percentage, it literally describes how much of your stakes, on average, are paid out as winnings. The difference between the RTP and 100% is the house edge.

For example, if a slot game has an RTP of 96%, you can expect to win back £96 for every £100 you wager.

Note, however, that RTP is a theoretical average based on millions of spins, and the RTP you experience during a single session may differ significantly.

RTP is not to be confused with variance/volatility, which determines how frequently a specific slot varies from its RTP. A highly volatile game offers fewer wins, but with higher values. A low volatility game pays out more frequently, but in smaller amounts.

What is a good RTP?

The figure generally cited as average is 96%. Anything above this is considered good, and it can vary quite a bit. Anything below should be approached with caution, but not disregarded completely.

In some cases, you might actually prefer to play a low RTP game. Some games offer other incentives to compensate for a lower RTP, such as higher volatility or big bonus features that can produce significant wins quickly. You will also find that progressive jackpots, which offer the biggest wins of all, are generally attached to lower RTP games due to the contribution to the jackpot.

These lower RTP games are most likely to appeal to risk-takers, but it’s important to recognise that RTP isn’t the only factor you should be considering.

Strategy for playing high RTP slots

When it comes to high RTP slots, there are a few strategies that you can use to make the best of your bankroll.

  • Keep your bets low: By spreading your bankroll over a larger number of smaller bets, you stand a better chance of winning in line with the RTP average.
  • Longer sessions: To keep your overall session outcome in line with the RTP, it’s often necessary to play the long game.
  • Consider variance: A high volatility game deviates from the RTP more, so consider a lower or medium volatility title.

Effect of jackpots on RTP

Jackpots have a direct impact on RTP rates. The trick is spotting which are included in the RTP calculation, and which aren’t.

The biggest wins come from progressive jackpots, but this money has to come from somewhere. These jackpots are generally funded using a proportion of each bet, which has the effect of reducing the overall RTP. This is one reason why you shouldn’t overlook low RTP games.

Some external network promotions aren’t included in the RTP rate, but it’s generally clear when this is the case. For example, Pragmatic Play runs the Drops & Wins network prize pool promo, which can produce some massive wins. This doesn’t impact the RTP of titles, so it can be considered an added extra incentive.

Can you tell when an online slot will pay out?

No, RNGs ensure that slots are fair, and that each spin has the same chance of paying out. There is no such thing as an online slot that’s ‘ready’ to pay out. Contrary to gambler’s fallacy, the spin after a big win is no more or less likely to be a win. RTP rates and variance are the main indicators that players have.

Summary

There are some excellent high RTP slot games to be found on no wagering sites. When playing with free spins, choosing a high RTP slot is your best shot at maximising your winnings, and you’ll struggle to do any better than the games we’ve mentioned above! If these are included in the T&Cs of your spins, they’re a solid choice.
