UKGC suspends Bet At Home's license
The UKGC is cracking down on licenses
The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has announced that it has suspended the operating licence of Bet At Home's licence as it carries out a review under section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005.
This news comes just a couple of months after the UKGC suspended Goldchip's licence and fined Jumpman Gaming Limited and Progress Play. The UKGC has announced that this suspension takes place immediately.
What is Bet At Home?
Bet At Home is a European online gaming and sports betting company that was founded in 1999 in Austria by Jochen Dickinger and Franz Ömer.
By March 2000, the website went live and initially offered sports betting but soon broadened its offering with live betting, esports, virtual betting and casino games such as online slots and table games.
Unsuitable to carry on
The suspension comes after concerns that activities may have been carried out contrary to the Gambling Act and not in line with the conditions of their licence.
It's also suspected that the licensee may be unsuitable to carry on the licensed activities as there were suspected social responsibility and anti-money laundering failings were key considerations in the suspension decision.
"Focus on treating consumers fairly," says UKGC
In response to the news, the UKGC said: "We have made it clear to the operator that during the course of the suspension, we expect it to focus on treating consumers fairly and keeping them fully informed of any developments which impact them."
It added: "The suspension does not prevent the operator from allowing consumers to access their accounts and withdrawing funds. Bet-at-home.com Internet Limited – which operates bet-at-home.com, bet-at-home.co.uk and uk.bet-at-home.com – can be contacted through its website."
