Premier League Clubs ordered to end relationship with suspended operator

Three high profile Premier League football clubs have severed ties with Russian betting firm 1xBet after their license was revoked by the UK Gambling Commission.

Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Liverpool were all contacted by the Gambling Commission informing them that they were to cease any association with the Russian bookmaker after a number of shocking revelations came to light.

It has been found that the casino had been allowing punters to bet on both children's sports and cockfighting as well as promoting the notorious Pornhub Casino

It had also been noted that the firm heavily advertised on illegal streams of Premier League games.

No lessons learned

This isn't the first time 1xBet have made headlines for all the wrong reasons, in February 2019 they were fined by Dutch regulator Kansspelautoriteit for making the site accessible to residents of the Netherlands.

The controversial casino have also found themselves tangled in a row with Tel Aviv District Court for allowing Israeli players to bet on their site, without holding the necessary gaming licenses.

On top of all this the bookmaker is also banned in their home country of Russia for distributing counterfeit games on more than one occasion.

Clubs faced huge fines

Tottenham were the first club to end their association with the rouge firm with Chelsea and Liverpool following suit days later. Had the three clubs continued their relationship with 1xBet they all would have risked prosecution and hefty fines climbing into the millions of pounds.

1xBet also recently signed a lucrative five-year sponsorship deal with footballing giants Barcelona that saw them become a Global Partner of the club. It remains to be seen as to whether the Catalan side will make any move to end their relationship following the controversy.

1xBet's resposne

In a short statement released by 1xBet they said: “We take very seriously the allegation that 1xBet’s brand has been promoted on prohibited sites, which is strictly against our policies, and we have launched an investigation. Pending the outcome... We believe it is responsible to temporarily suspend our advertising activity in the UK.”
