GambleAware launches £3m assistance fund

There are two new initiatives launching from GambleAware

On the 30th of June 2022, GambleAware announced that they are launching a £3 million fund launched for gambling harms aftercare and community programmes. This is called Aftercare Funding Programme and a Community Resilience Fund.

The announcement of this fund comes after GambleAware launched Lived Experience Council and Gambling Harms Research Centre. These two major funding programmes will focus on enabling people to sustain their recovery from gambling harm and affect communities that have been most affected by the cost-of-living crisis.

The Aftercare Funding Programme

Two million of the funding will go to the Aftercare Funding Programme which is seeking applicated for projects which will provide services so that more people in recovery can rebuild their lives. Partners and new charities and organisations will be able to apply for the fund with smaller organisations being awarded up to £150,000 and bigger organisations being awarded up to £350,000.

Owen Baily, a Lived Experience Consultant said: “The launch of GambleAware’s Aftercare Funding Programme is a much needed and welcome investment and will play a crucial role in the prevention of further gambling harm by funding a range of projects.

“Enabling people to build on their recovery capital is a key ingredient in ensuring people have the best chance to achieve and sustain long-term recovery from gambling harms following gambling treatment.”

Applications for the Aftercare Funding Programme open today and will close on the 15th of August 2022 at 12pm.

The Community Resilience Fund

The other million of the fund will go towards the Community Resilience Fund which aims to provide short-term funding to enable organisations to respond quickly to the cost-of-living crisis and the impact this has had to exacerbate gambling harms.

Just like the Aftercare Funding Programme, new partners and charities can apply for this and gain up to £100,000 for 12 months. Applications for the Community Resilience Fund open today and close on the 28th of July 2022.

“Whilst there are many people who receive successful treatment and support for gambling harms, there is less known about how to ensure recovery is sustained. The Aftercare Funding Programme will help people in this phase of longer-term recovery and responds to the need for a long-term structured aftercare programme.

“The Community Resilience Fund will help organisations to address specific needs within the community and the inequalities they experience.”
