In respect of Her Majesty's passing, Betfred and William have made an announcement

Two of the biggest names in the gambling industry, Betfred and William Hill, have announced that the two companies have ceased retail trading in the UK for the 9th of September 2022 in respect of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

On the 8th of September, William Hill made a formal announcement detailing this, whilst Betfred did the same. Whilst the physical retail stores have stopped trading for the 9th of September, the iGaming world continues on meaning that players can access the online casinos.

"Join with the nation in expressing our deepest condolences,” says William Hill

In the statement from William Hill, the company said: "We’re saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen. Queen Elizabeth II, our longest reigning monarch, has been an important and steadfast figurehead during times of massive change.”

The company added: "We join with the nation in expressing our deepest condolences to The Royal Family." Betfred made a similar post detailing the closure of shops on the 8th and 9th of September.

"Pay tribute to her majesty's long and unwavering service to our country,” says Premiere League

This follows many within the industry showing respect for the late Queen as Football's English Premiere League and a number of other major British sports organisations have also announced that many games will not go ahead over the weekend.

The Irish FA, British Horseracing, Cricket, PGA Championship, Cycling Tour of Britain and Premiership Rugby Cup have been postponed over the weekend.

“We and our clubs would like to pay tribute to her majesty’s long and unwavering service to our country,” Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said. “As our longest-serving monarch, she has been an inspiration and leaves behind an incredible legacy following a life of dedication.

He concluded: “This is a tremendously sad time for not just the nation but also for the millions of people around the world who admired her, and we join together with all those in mourning her passing.”
